Abstract
This book is a collection of 53 essays, 23 lead policy proposals and 30 response essays that were presented in Philadelphia at the November 2009 meeting of the American Society of Criminology. The book is designed to allow for a more seamless integration of policy discussions in the classroom setting with the intent to further efforts to remove the traditional knowledge divide between practice and empirical knowledge related to criminal justice issues. The essays are broken down into eight thematic sections. Each section contains both policy papers followed by original response essays centered on a specific topic of criminal justice policy. The eight sections are: 1) Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy; 2) Justice Policy; 3) Drug and Alcohol Policy; 4) Terrorism Policy; 5) Immigration Policy; 6) Policing Policy; 7) Juvenile Justice Policy; and 8) Corrections Policy.
