Abstract
They reject Sherman's proposition that sanctioning provokes criminality, and criticize Braithwaite for referring to positivism as being a mainstream (largely bad) idea but never explaining what constitutes it or who believes in it. However, Braithwaite focused on the issue of research contributions to the reduction of crime more seriously than any other participant. The authors recommend a special research emphasis on violence, because among the industrialized Western countries, while the nonviolent property crimes are relatively evenly distributed, robberies and murders are rampant only in the United States. 8 references
