The curriculum and supporting materials in this document are guidelines for the delivery of performance- based law enforcement training in "controlled substances" as specified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Abstract
The first section of this guide outlines the content of instruction on drug law offenses as defined in California law. Students are given a word picture that depicts elements of the offense at issue. The student must decide whether the crime is complete, and if so, identify it by its common name and crime classification. The offenses examined are possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transport for sales of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, being present where a controlled substance is used, cultivating or harvesting marijuana, and ingesting or inhaling a volatile or poisonous substance. Another section of the curriculum teaches students about substance identification. For eight substances, the instructor gives a word picture that depicts a situation where the drug as issue is present in one of its common forms. The student must know how to identify the substance. The concluding section of the curriculum instructs students in the symptoms/effects of various drugs. Supporting materials and 10 references are provided.
