PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1978 CONFERENCE ON CONVICTED OFFENDER ASSISTANCE AS SPONSORED BY THE GERMAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC'S ASSOCIATION FOR CONVICTED OFFENDER ASSISTANCE ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
PAPERS RELATE TO THE TRANSFORMATION OF CONVICTED OFFENDER ASSISTANCE FROM HUMANITARIAN AID IN THE EARLY FIFTIES TO ACTION WHICH SHAPES CRIMINAL POLICY, THE BASIC PROBLEMS OF PROVIDING AID FOR RESOCIALIZATION OF OFFENDERS, AND THE EXPANDED NEED FOR PRISONER ASSISTANCE AS A RESULT OF LEGAL REFORMS. OTHER DISCUSSIONS ADDRESS THE ROLE OF JUDGES AND THE COURTS IN PROMOTING OFFENDER REHABILITATION, THE NEED FOR ASSISTANCE TO INMATES AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM THE BEGINNING OF INCARCERATION AS WELL AS FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION TO AID IN THE ADJUSTMENT OF EX-OFFENDERS, THE SPECIAL PROBLEMS OF ASSISTANCE FOR FOREIGN INMATES, THE VIABLE FORMS AND GOALS OF LIVING GROUPS FOR EX-OFFENDERS, AND EX-OFFENDERS' PROBLEMS IN REENTERING THE JOB MARKET AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SOCIAL INTEGRATION OF ADDICTED OFFENDERS, FORMS OF SPECIAL ASSISTANCE AND PROPOSED GERIATRIC FACILITIES FOR ELDERLY INMATES AND RELEASED PRISONERS, AND FAMILY CONFLICTS AND DISRUPTIONS RESULTING FROM THE ARREST OF A PARENT, AS WELL AS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMS THROUGH COUNSELING AND ASSISTANCE. REPORTS ON DISCUSSIONS HELD BY WORK GROUPS ON EACH OF THE TOPICS ABOVE, A COPY OF THE ASSOCIATIONS BY-LAWS, AND A LIST OF THE ASSOCIATION'S LEADERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP ARE FURNISHED.
