The Correctional Investigator is charged with investigating complaints of inmates and to report upon these to the Solicitor General of Canada. In 1981-82, a total of 1,346 complaints were received.
Abstract
Tables provide statistics on complaints received and pending by category, by month, by institution, and by region; institutional visits; inmate interviews; disposition of complaints; and complaints resolved by category. Recommendations pertain to reading of inmate correspondence, access to security information, searching of male inmates by female staff, inmates in protective custody, segregation, involuntary transfer, and other matters. A summary of recommendations is appended.
