Abstract
IN 1977, THE PENNSYLVANIA PRISON WARDEN'S ASSOCIATION, AN ORGANIZATION OF CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS AT THE COUNTY, STATE, AND FEDERAL LEVEL, FOUND THAT LOCAL WARDENS, SUPERINTENDENTS, AND SHERIFFS WERE OFTEN VULNERABLE TO LITIGATION BECAUSE THEY WERE UNWARE OF THE GROWING BODY OF CASE LAW IN THE FIELD OF LOCAL CORRECTIONS. MANY LOCAL AND COUNTY CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS DO NOT HAVE LEGAL ADVISORS, AND THE CORRECTIONS ADMINISTRATORS MUST MAKE LEGAL MATTERS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. THIS INFORMAL BIBLIOGRAPHY WAS DEVELOPED TO MEET THIS NEED. IT CONTAINS CASE LAW REPORTS AND LEGAL PERIODICALS WHICH REGULARLY GIVE CORRECTIONAL LAW DECISIONS; FOUR LEGAL TEXTS ON CORRECTIONAL LAW; SPECIAL STUDIES OF PRISONERS' RIGHTS AND CORRECTIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS; A SECTION GIVING ABSTRACTS, BIBLIOGRAPHIES, AND PERIODICAL INDEXES; CORRECTIONAL STANDARDS; GENERAL NEWSLETTERS IN THE FIELD; AND PERIODICALS WITH SOME CORRECTIONAL LAW COVERAGE. THE ANNOTATIONS DESCRIBE THE ITEMS AND GIVE SOME INDICATION OF HOW THEY WOULD BE USEFUL TO THE WORKING ADMINISTRATOR. PUBLISHERS ADDRESSES AND PRICES ARE ALSO INCLUDED. (GLR)
