This videotape introduces new and veteran correctional officers to the fundamental elements of good report writing, emphasizing the value of preciseness and objectivity.
Abstract
The videotape notes that good reports not only document events, but also reflect the writer's abilities to handle situations. Several examples demonstrate the basic questions that any report should answer: who was involved, what happened, when did it happen and where, how did the incident start, why, and what action was taken by the officer. Examples of reports include ones covering fights, allegations by one inmate that another stole his property, property descriptions, searching and confiscating contraband items, infractions of work rules, and stealing food from the cafeteria.
