Activities of the Minnesota Department of Corrections are described, including community-based corrections, new institution development, sexual assault programming, information systems, industries and inspection programming, and administrative and support services.
Abstract
The department's mission is community protection through developing and providing programs controlling offenders' inappropriate behaviors and assisting offenders in functioning as law abiding citizens. The Department assists local communities in developing community-based programs, provides technical and financial assistance, and sets standards for program management and operation. Community corrections programs include nonresidential programs, residential programs serving as alternatives to incarceration, halfway houses, foster care and group home programs, and programs operating through jails, lockups and detention centers. New institution development efforts are focusing on the design of a new Minnesota State Prison to house 400 high-security inmates humanely, efficiently, and economically in an architecturally flexible setting. Programs for victims of sexual assault have included a statewide program which delivers comprehensive services to sexual assault victims through a coordinated statewide network. Other categories described in the report include information systems, industry programs for inmates, a list of Minnesota correctional institutions, personnel, budget, and future plans. Tabular data and photographs are included.
