Abstract
The theme, "Corrections as a Business," reflects the fact that the department has taken on the outlook and management style of a multibillion-dollar enterprise. Included are recommendations for improving efficiency and productivity by using Total Quality Management techniques. Also featured are money-saving ideas, the closure of the 21- year-old Costello lawsuit that dealt with prison overcrowding and the denial of health care to inmates, and the legislation of funding for 10,584 prison beds. Statistical tables show inmate admissions, inmate status population, inmate releases, community supervision admissions, community supervision status population, and community supervision releases in the fiscal year and in the past 10 years. Data are broken down according to offender age, race, gender, type of crime, and length of sentence. Tables, charts, directory
