THE AUTHOR ARGUES THAT REHABILITATION IN THE CORRECTIONS PROCESS HAS NOT FAILED - IT HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY ATTEMPTED, DUE TO INHERENT DIFFICULTIES.
Abstract
THE ROLE OF REHABILITATION IN THE CORRECTIONS PROCESSES OF DETENTION, PROBATION, INSTITUTIONS, AND PAROLE AND OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES IS EXPLORED. EACH HAS FAILED TO REHABILITATE DUE TO ITS VERY ORGANIZATION. SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE FOR REFORMING THE SYSTEM WITH A SUCCESS-ORIENTED ORGANIZATION. A MODEL CORRECTIONS SYSTEM FOR 1986 IS OUTLINED, IN WHICH REHABILITATION, RATHER THAN SECURITY AND (WAREHOUSING' OF PRISONERS IS STRESSED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
