Abstract

Data was collected by survey of correctional agencies from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the Correctional Service of Canada. Information gathered and presented includes a population profile of the inmates in various programs within the U.S. adult correctional system as well as those in U.S. jails. Descriptions of various correctional institutions and their budgets, programs, administration, and staff are provided.
