This booklet presents statistics on probation and parole in the United States and Canada.
Abstract
The data reported in this volume were extracted from survey questionnaires completed by 52 probation and parole agencies in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Administrative Office of the US Courts, and the Correctional Service of Canada for parole. Researchers made follow-up telephone calls to verify and gather additional information. Responses were tabulated and, where appropriate, averaged, compared with other subject categories or compared with data collected from prior research. The information is presented in narrative, tabular, and graphic formats. The 56 categories of information include: (1) Government Levels Administering Probation and Parole; (2) Numbers of Probation Officers, Supervisory, and Support Staff; (3) Average Costs Per Probationer Per Day; (4) Electronic Monitoring of Probationers; (5) Types of Probation Services Provided; (6) Hours of Training Required of Parole Officers; (7) Cost of Operating a Parole Agency; and (8) Number of Parolees Under Active Supervision (Gender, Ethnicity).
