THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF CRIME IN FRANCE, BOTH FOR THE PUBLIC TREASURY AND FOR THE VICTIMS, IS CALCULATED AND ANALYZED FOR THE YEARS 1972 AND 1973.
Abstract
THE ANALYSIS HIGHLIGHTS THE VARIOUS FORMS OF OFFENSES AGAINST THE FRENCH ECONOMY AND THE COSTS RESULTING FROM 'NEGLIGENT' CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, PARTICULARLY TRAFFIC OFFENSES. THE AUTHORS BASE THEIR CALCULATIONS ON ESTIMATES OF THE COSTS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, CRIME PREVENTION, AND PRIVATE SECURITY, AS WELL AS THE LOSSES INCURRED BY SUCH ECOMOMIC OFFENSES AS TAX OFFENSES, CUSTOMS VIOLATIONS, AND EXCHANGE VIOLATIONS. LOSSES DUE TO CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS, PROPERTY CRIMES, AND THE DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. FROM THESE THE AUTHORS DEDUCT REVENUES RESULTING FROM FINES, COURT COSTS RECOVERED AND OTHER ECONOMIC PENALTIES. --IN FRENCH
