This paper examines the cost in balancing the Nation's security in the fight against terrorism with the public's constitutional freedoms.
Abstract
Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the United States began to reassess existing homeland security policies and procedures and determined it was necessary to revise its permeable security measures to prevent future attacks. This resulted in the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security. With establishing the Department of Homeland Security, citizens began to feel a sense of loss in certain freedoms that are expected in a democracy. However, it is the inherent responsibility of the leaders of America to create a safe haven for its citizens by exacting some measure of security while maintaining a balance of freedom everyone has come to expect. In the realm of security, policymakers are continuously attempting to balance the loss of freedoms vice defending against future terrorist attacks. 27 notes
