AN EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVE WEAPONS DETECTOR DEVELOPED FOR THE REMOTE EXAMINATION OF BOARDING AIRLINE PASSENGERS IS DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF A NOVEL, YET SIMPLE, COIL CONFIGURATION COMBINED WITH SOLID STATE TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER CIRCUITRY WHICH PROVIDES TWO MODES OF OPERATION, CORRESPONDING TO LOW AND HIGH SECURITY REQUIREMENTS. THIS PERMITS THE MODE OF OPERATION TO BE CHANGED ON A PERSONTO-PERSON BASIS RESULTING IN A LOWER FALSE ALARM RATE THAN COULD BE OTHERWISE OBTAINED. OPERATIONAL TESTS OF THIS UNIT ARE REVIEWED INDICATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS DEVICE. FINALLY, THE POSSIBLE DANGERS TO HUMANS FROM ACTIVE DETECTORS IS DISCUSSED AND RECENT STUDIES IN THIS AREA ARE REVIEWED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
