Abstract
Individual chapters focus on the nature and effects of trauma, post-traumatic stress and grief, and secondary victimization. Effective therapies for trauma victims are discussed, including art, music, journaling, play therapy, wilderness retreats, recreational therapy, group therapy, victim-offender programs, and inner healing. Additional chapters detail practical ways to help victims of specific crimes, including robbery, elder abuse, ethnic violence, hate violence directed against homosexuals or others, domestic assault, sexual assault, murder, ritual or cult crimes, and child abuse. Emphasizing developmental intervention strategies, these chapters explain the victim's main concerns, how to intervene at the crisis, which social services are needed, short-term counseling issues, and long- term counseling issues. Case examples, overview charts, lists of recommended readings, referral telephone numbers, and 190 references
