Abstract
CTAC, in conjunction with Federal, State and local agencies, initiated 52 specific technology projects. The report includes descriptions of CTAC accomplishments, a program summary, infrastructure support, outreach program, future plans, and program issues. Examples of major CTAC accomplishments include: (1) a prototype multimedia and data fusion system applying new networking technology with law enforcement agencies in Pinnellas County, FL; (2) a performance evaluation of two firearms ballistic imaging systems that resulted in a Federal guideline for ballistic imaging systems; (3) an automated targeting system for identifying cargo that has a high probability of containing contraband; (4) opened the Border Research and Technology Center at Otay Mesa, CA; (5) developed a Global Positioning System laptop computer mapping and tracking system to assist police in drug-related criminal investigations; and (6) worked on ways to detect drugs in drums and tankers by nonintrusively measuring the acoustic properties of the transported substance.
