This report provides a profile of Florida's detention facilities' inmate population for July 1993.
Abstract
The figures are collapsed into male and female categories for adult and juvenile offenders and are also categorized as felony, misdemeanor, and "other" to facilitate interpretation. The latter category includes parole violators, State inmates, undocumented aliens, inmates held for other jurisdictions, and inmates detained under mental health and alcoholism statutes. In July 1993, the average daily population in Florida's county detention facilities was 34,610 inmates, an increase of 0.7 percent from the previous month. Adult females accounted for 10 percent of the total, and juveniles for 3 percent. Nearly 72 percent were incarcerated for felony offenses. Offenders held for trial represented almost 58 percent of the inmate population. During the reporting period, 9 percent of the counties in Florida had average daily inmate populations which exceeded their Department of Corrections rated capacity. 4 tables and 3 figures
