This 1993 annual report of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department presents narrative information and tabular data on law enforcement activities and crime reported or known to the Sheriff's Department.
Abstract
Information on departmental activities is presented by organizational divisions, which include executive offices, Professional Standards and Training Division, Detective Division, the three field operations regions, the Office of Administrative Services, the Court Services Division, the Custody Division, and the Technical Services Division. Prominent activities by the Sheriff's Department in 1993 included the development of a plan for a pre-emptive approach to civil disorder, cooperation with firefighters to provide public protection against devastating wildfires in the county, and an organized effort to pass Proposition 172, the Statewide Sales Tax Initiative, to help relieve the financial strain on the budget. The merger of the Marshal's Department with the Sheriff's Department, effective January 1, 1994, will increase the department's ranks by nearly 1,000 members. Statistical data address personnel strength, crime, crime rates, arrests, clearances, stolen and recovered property, arrestee characteristics, domestic violence, traffic incidents, and juvenile arrests. Statistics are presented for the department as a whole and by field operations region.
