DESCRIBES TREATMENT SERVICES FOR YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS WITH A BACKGROUND OF PSYCHIATRIC PROBLEMS AT THE SOUTHERN RECEPTION CENTER-CLINIC IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. PRACTICAL EFFORTS.
Abstract
THIS PROGRAM IS A COOPERATIVE EFFORT OF THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY AND THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH. THE PROGRAM HAS THREE ASPECTS - LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL CARE FOR WARDS REFERRED FROM CYA INSTITUTIONS, TRANSITIONAL ASSISTANCE FOR WARDS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM, AND CRISIS INTERVENTION FOR WARDS FROM OTHER CYA PROGRAMS WHO NEED IMMEDIATE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY LONG-TERM THERAPY. THE PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO EFFECT CONSTRUCTIVE BEHAVIORAL ADJUSTMENTS TO ENABLE THE WARD TO FUNCTION IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THE TREATMENT METHOD IS CLINICAL EXPERIMENTAL. EDUCATION AND RECREATION ARE ALSO A PART OF THE THERAPY PROGRAM. THE RATIO OF STAFF TO WARDS IS HIGH.
