A DISCUSSION OF PLANS FOR COURT REORGANIZATION IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS TO MAKE THE COURT SYSTEM MORE CONSISTENT WITH THE CONCEPT OF SELF-GOVERNMENT.
Abstract
OF ALL THE CHANGES THAT ARE SUGGESTED, THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS THE CHANGING OF THE NAME 'INFERIOR COURT' TO 'COURT OF LOCAL JURISDICTION' TO BE PARAMOUNT. THE APPELLATE STRUCTURE SHOULD ALSO BE CHANGED. AS IT STANDS NOW, APPEALS TO THE DISTRICT COURT'S RULINGS ARE HANDLED BY THE THIRD DISTRICT COURT OF PHILADELPHIA. OTHER CHANGES ARE ALSO SUGGESTED, MOST OF THEM FOR THE SAKE OF AUTONOMY.
