Abstract
THE LESSONS PRESENTED ARE DESIGNED TO FACILITATE YOUNG PEOPLE'S UNDERSTANDING OF THE COURT SYSTEM THROUGH BRIEF NARRATIVES, CASE STUDIES, DISCUSSION IDEAS AND QUESTIONS, LESSON ACTIVITIES, AND ILLUSTRATION. CHAPTERS CONSIDER DISPUTE SETTLEMENT, FAIR COURT PROCEDURE, PRECEDENT, STUDENTS AND THE COURTS, COURT STRUCTURE, TRIAL COURT PROCEDURE, AND CIVIL LAW. AN OUTLINE FOR PUTTING ON A MOCK TRIAL PRESENTS A CASE, AND STUDENTS ARE GUIDED IN GATHERING EVIDENCE, BRINGING THE CASE TO TRIAL, UNDERSTANDING COURT PROCEDURE, INTERVIEWING WITNESSES, AND DECISIONMAKING ON PART OF THE JUDGE AND JURY.
