Abstract
Citations are organized by major subject area, Federal funding agency, and alphabetically by title within funding source. Topics covered include court procedures such as dispute resolution, day fines, bail guidelines, and court delay reduction strategies; crime-specific research including such offenses as domestic assault, driving under the influence, drug offenses, and rape and incest; and juvenile justice system studies of such topics as juvenile court waiver, evaluation of habitual and serious juvenile offenders, and judicial training. Offender-relevant topics deal with evaluation of dangerousness in sex offenders, incapacitation of narcotics wholesalers, and criminal career patterns. Prosecution research focuses on police-prosecutor relations, evidence gathering techniques, prosecutorial discretion, and prosecutor training. Studies of sentencing consider such areas as deterrence effectiveness, sentencing disparity, sentencing reform, and sanctions for specific offense categories. Other, trial-related, research elucidates jury behavior and decisionmaking, as well as the effects of trial and pretrial procedures on trial length and outcomes. Finally, research on victim-witness legislation and programs, particularly relating to child abuse and domestic violence victims, is summarizied. Each citation includes information on the investigator, organizational affiliation, and study duration.
