The purpose of this study was to assess client perspectives on the implementation of the Internet-based Journey Mapping tool for evaluation of a drug court treatment program.
Abstract
Clients responded that Journey Mapping initiated behavioral change, promoted cognitive change, tracked personal treatment progress, and created a way for their opinions about their treatment to be studied by program staff. Clients did not report their Journey Mapping experiences as being problematic or negative. The results of this evaluation points to Journey Mapping having the potential to be a supportive treatment tool for drug court clients. Proposed as a solution, Journey Mapping captures stories, in the form of structured narratives, into the database. It allows multiple persons involved in an intervention to enter their perspective into the database. Lastly, the Journey Mapping technology is easy to use. It offers a broad spectrum of possibilities for use in drug court or other social work program evaluation. This study examined three research questions: how do clients use the Journey Mapping tool, what behaviors of program clients have changed as a result of the implementation of the Journey Mapping tool, and how does the Journey Mapping tool change evaluation tasks of clients?
