Abstract
The 63 jurisdictions that meet this criterion account for approximately 65 percent of the crimes reported in the State. The jurisdictions are grouped into three categories: police departments, sheriff's departments, and contract cities (incorporated cities that contract for law enforcement services rather than maintain their own police force). During the period under study, the California Crime Index decreased 3.8 percent. The number of homicides reported for the first 6 months of 1993 increased 6.5 percent compared to the same period in 1992. Reported forcible rapes decreased 8.6 percent the first half of 1993 compared to the same period last year. Reported robberies decreased 5.4 percent compared to last year, and the number of aggravated assaults reported decreased 2 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of reported burglaries decreased 6.4 percent, and there was a 0.9- percent decrease in the number of motor vehicle thefts reported. Charts also show the number of reported larceny- thefts and arsons. Data are shown for selected jurisdictions.
