This annual report from the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center presents data on crime in Alabama in 2007.
Abstract
Summary offense data for crime in Alabama in 2007 includes: 194,610 crimes were reported to law enforcement; the average crime rate for the State was 4,205.2 per 100,000 inhabitants; on average, 522 Part I offenses were reported daily; total property value stolen in 2007 was $240,057,067; 238 law enforcement officers were assaulted in 2007; 29,853 persons were arrested for Part I offenses; and juveniles made up 13 percent of arrests for Part I offenses. These data include offense and arrest data for Part I offenses of homicide, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft; arson data are included in a separate section of this report. More detailed summary data are provided on property crimes (burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft) and violent crimes (homicide, rape, robbery, and assault). This report also contains arrest data on Part II offenses, which are crimes other than those defined as Part I offenses such as fraud, embezzlement, driving under the influence, gambling, and prostitution. Since many of these types of crimes go undetected until an arrest is made, only arrest data are collected for UCR (uniform crime reporting) purposes. In 2007, 197,836 persons were arrested in Alabama for Part II offenses; 95 percent of those arrested were adults; and males accounted for 79 percent of those arrested. Tables and appendixes
