CRIME DATA ARE REPORTED FROM 10 ALASKA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES PRESENTING COMPLETE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS FOR 1976.
Abstract
THE DATA PRESENTED INCLUDE INFORMATION ON CRIME FOR THE YEAR 1976. THESE DATA ARE COMPARED WITH DATA FROM FORMER YEARS, AND TRENDS FOR THE COMING YEAR ARE PROJECTED. SINCE THE GUIDELINES FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLAN FOR ALASKA REQUIRE THAT THE FOUR MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC AREAS BE REPORTED SEPARATELY FROM THE REST OF THE STATE, ANCHORAGE, FAIRBANKS, JUNEAU, AND KETCHIKAN ARE ADDRESSED SEPARATELY IN MOST OF THE TABLES AND CHARTS. HOWEVER, EACH CITY THAT REPORTED FULLY IN 1976 IS LISTED IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK WITH A COMPLETE CRIME BREAKDOWN. STATISTICS ON ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED OR ASSAULTED ARE REPORTED. PART I CRIMES (CRIMINAL HOMICIDE, FORCIBLE RAPE, ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND THEFT, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT) ARE REPORTED FOR 1976, ALONG WITH TRENDS, NATURE OF OFFENSES WITHIN EACH MAJOR CRIME CATEGORY, CLEARANCE RATES, AND CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONS ARRESTED. CRIME RATES, A COMPARISON OF ALASKA'S CRIME RATE WITH THE NATIONAL CRIME RATE, AND A CRIME ANALYSIS OF ALASKA'S URBAN CENTERS ARE ALSO REPORTED FOR PART I CRIMES. DISTRIBUTION, APPREHENSION, AND ARREST RANKINGS BY SEX, AGE, AND RACE ARE PRESENTED FOR PART II OFFENSES, AND CLEARANCE RATES ARE SHOWN IN TABLES FOR COMPARISON OF PART I AND PART II OFFENSES. ALSO INCLUDED ARE CHARTS FOR YEARLY RETURNS ON OFFENSES KNOWN TO THE POLICE, PROPERTY STOLEN BY TYPE OF OFFENSE, CLASS AND VALUE OF PROPERTY, AND ARRESTS BY AGE, RACE, AND SEX. (RCB)
