AN HISTORICAL AND INTERNATIONAL REVIEW OF THE CRIME RATES OF JEWS IS PROVIDED, AND A STUDY OF CRIME AMONG JEWS IN THE PALESTINEAN AREA BEFORE AND AFTER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ISRAEL IS GIVEN.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR PROVIDES INFORMATION IN SUPPORT OF HIS CONTENTION THAT THERE IS A CLOSE CORRELATION OF AN INVERSE CHARACTER BETWEEN PARTICIPATION OF JEWS IN CRIME ON ONE HAND AND THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, POLITICAL AND CULTURAL LIFE OF THE COUNTRY OF THEIR RESIDENCE. HE CITES THE DRAMATIC INCREASE IN JEWISH CRIME IN ISRAEL AS AN EXAMPLE THE THEORY THAT THE NORMALIZATION OF A PEOPLE'S LIFE ALSO RESULTS IN A NORMALIZATION OF THE MEASURE OF DEVIANT BEHAVIOR FOUND IN THEIR SOCIETY. THE PROPORTION OF JEWS PARTICIPATING IN VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF CRIME IS COMPARED TO PROPORTIONS OF THE MAJORITY POPULATION FOR SEVERAL COUNTRIES. A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF CRIME IN THE STATE OF ISRAEL IS THEN PROVIDED. AN ANALYSIS OF CRIME RATES FOR THE VARIOUS IMMIGRANT GROUPS WHICH MAKE UP THE POPULATION OF ISRAEL IS INCLUDED. ALSO PRESENTED IS A DISCUSSION OF ISRAELI CRIME AMONG SUCH SUBGROUPS AS JUVENILES AND FEMALES.
