Abstract
THE GENERAL SCOPE OF THE CRIME PROBLEM IS DISCUSSED, AND THE COMPONENTS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE OUTLINED. COURSES INCLUDED IN MOST ASSOCIATE, BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARE LISTED. STATISTICS DOCUMENTING CHANGES IN CRIME RATES IN THE UNITED STATES FROM 1960 THROUGH 1974 ARE REVIEWED. THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE JOHNSON ADMINISTRATION'S COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION ARE SUMMARIZED. INCLUDED ARE DISCUSSIONS OF THE MAJOR FINDINGS FROM THE COMMISSION'S NATIONWIDE SURVEYS OF OFFENDERS AND VICTIMS, AS WELL AS REVIEWS OF RECOMMENDATIONS PERTAINING TO CRIME PREVENTION, METHODS OF DEALING WITH OFFENDERS, ELIMINATION OF UNFAIRNESS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, PERSONNEL, RESEARCH, FUNDING, AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHANGE. POTENTIAL CAREERS IN THE FIELDS OF ENFORCEMENT, CORRECTIONS, AND ADJUDICATION ARE NOTED, AS ARE JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN FEDERAL AND PRIVATE AGENCIES. ADVICE ON CAREER SELECTION, EDUCATION, AND EMPLOYMENT IS OFFERED TO PERSONS INTERESTED IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE WORK, AND PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS CONCERNED WITH CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND CRIMINOLOGY ARE DESCRIBED.
