SUMMARY OF A FINAL REPORT ON A SURVEY CONDUCTED IN MARYLAND TO DETERMINE THE OPINIONS OF A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE OF RESIDENTS ON ISSUES RELATED TO CRIME AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY WAS TO ASSIST THE STATE PLANNING AGENCY IN FORMULATING OVERALL CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPROVEMENT PLANS, GETTING PUBLIC REACTION TO THOSE PLANS, AND EVALUATING THE IMPACT OF THE PLANS ONCE THEY ARE IMPLEMENTED. THE SURVEY FOCUSED UPON FIVE SPECIFIC AREAS INCLUDING THE RELATIVE PRIORITY ASSIGNED TO CRIME AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROBLEMS, FAMILIARTY AND EXPERIENCE WITH STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, ATTITUDE TOWARD CRIME REDUCTION AND SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT SOLUTIONS OUTLINED IN THE PLAN, WILLINGNESS TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT PROGRAMS, AND RELATIVE IMPORTANCE ASSIGNED TO THE ELIMINATION OR REDUCTION OF CERTAIN TYPPES OF CRIME. A SUMMARY OF FINDINGS CONTAINS DISCUSSIONS ON MAJOR POINTS RAISED.
