Comparisons of 1982 and 1983 data are provided. Highlights include a 7.6-percent drop in the rate of index offenses from 1982 to 1983, a small drop in the arrest rate, and an increase in the total number of adults under supervision. Juvenile referrals to probation departments decreased, and the number of juveniles on caseload status increased 10.9 percent. Total criminal justice agency expenditures reported increased 8.1 percent. A glossary is included. Extensive charts and graphs of data are provided, along with 107 data tables.
