This statistical report contains the annual message from the attorney general of California covering trends in crime for the year 2001.
Abstract
This report is a brief summary of the Attorney General's report on California's crime statistics for 2001. He notes that major crime rate increased by 3.7 percent in 2001, with violent criminal offenses decreasing by .8 percent and property crime offenses increasing by 6 percent from the year 2000. Statistics are provided on the topics of the California Crime Index rate, the violent crime rate, and homicides; total arrest rate, felony arrests, juvenile felony arrests, juvenile status offense arrests, juvenile homicide arrests, and narcotic arrest rate; dispositions of adult felony arrests, probation with jail sentences, adult convictions of violent offenses, and drug offenses sentenced to State institutions; and adult corrections, and the rate of adults under State and local supervision. A contents list of the full report, not contained in this document, includes additional topics of criminal justice expenditures and personnel; a data section containing information on citizen complaints against peace officers and domestic violence reports; and appendices covering data characteristics and known limitations, a criminal justice glossary, arrest offense codes, computational formulas, notes, and acknowledgments.
