Abstract
TESTIMONY WAS SUBMITTED BY THE SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE COMMISSIONER ON AGING OF THE ADMINISTRATION ON AGING, THE PRESIDENT OF THE INDIANA SENIOR CITIZENS ASSOCIATION, THE SENIOR COORDINATOR FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS OF THE NATIONAL RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (NRTA) AND THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS (AARP), THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER OF THE MARION COUNTY SHERRIFF'S OFFICE, AND A COMMUNITY WORKER. THE TESTIMONY COVERED SUCH TOPICS AS THE MISINTERPRETATION OF CRIME STATISTICS, FUTURE TRENDS IN THE CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION OF THE ELDERLY, PROBLEM WITHIN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CRIMES AGAINST THE ELDERLY, THE VULNERABILITY OF THE ELDERLY, LOCAL EFFORTS IN THE AREAS OF VICTIM ASSISTANCE AND VICTIM ADVOCACY, AND THE ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF CRIME AND FEAR OF CRIME WITHIN THE ELDERLY COMMUNITY.
