Statistics reflecting the incidence of crime in Arizona during 1981 are presented.
Abstract
There were 212,656 Index offenses reported, a decrease of 4 percent over 1980. Of these offenses, 19 percent were cleared, an increase of 1 percent over 1980. The report covers the Arizona Crime Reporting System; uniform crime reporting; Index crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson; arrest data; law enforcement employee data; and assaults on police. Although the number of reported index crimes decreased during 1981, these crimes have increased 20.6 percent since 1977. During this same period, the rate of police officers per population has decreased 5.2 percent, while the percent of clearances has remained relatively stable. Extensive tables and graphs are provided, and a map of Arizona counties and a glossary are appended.
