This document provides crime data for the State of Arizona in the year 2000.
Abstract
There were 299,823 Crime Index Offenses reported in 2000. These offenses include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. August recorded the highest incidence of offenses with 26,334 while February recorded the lowest incidence with 23,531. The value of property stolen was $470,957,433. The value of property recovered was $180,391,450 for a recovery rate of 38 percent. Stolen motor vehicles accounted for 58 percent of the total stolen property and 93 percent of the total recovered property. A total of 49,048 persons were arrested for Index offenses. Adult arrests were 34,500 and juvenile arrests were 14,548. Males accounted for 75 percent of the arrests and females accounted for 25 percent. There were 47,975 clearances, or 16 percent of Index Offenses reported. Juveniles represented 21 percent of this total. There were 27,187 violent crimes reported, accounting for 9 percent of the total Crime Index. Aggravated assault accounted for the largest incidence of violent crimes while homicide accounted for the smallest. There were 9,022 arrests for violent crimes. There were 10,603 clearances of violent crimes reported. Juveniles represented 14 percent of this total. There were 272,636 property crimes reported, accounting for 91 percent of the total Crime Index. Larceny-theft accounted for the largest incidence of property crimes while arson accounted for the smallest. There were 40,026 arrests and 37,372 clearances of property crimes. The total arrest summary includes 296,058 persons arrested in 2000. Adult arrests were 237,251 and juvenile arrests were 58,807. Males accounted for 77 percent and females accounted for 22 percent. Part I offenses accounted for 49,048 arrests. Part II offenses accounted for 247,010 arrests. Glossary
