This report on crime is based on summary information submitted by law enforcement agencies as a part of the Arkansas Uniform Crime Reporting program.
Abstract
There were 109,911 serious crime (index offenses) reported; 25 percent of these offenses were cleared. The crime rate was established at 4,592 serious crimes for every 100,000 inhabitants. Ten percent of the 141,584 arrests made involved persons under age 18. The value of property stolen amounted to $83,709,834 with a recovery rate of 37 percent. Firearms were used in 69 percent of all murder/nonnegligent manslaughter cases reported and 35 percent of all robberies. Rape had an increase of 18 percent compared to 1988 with 922 rapes reported. Residential burglaries accounted for 66 percent of all burglaries reported; estimated value of property stolen is $25 million. There was one law enforcement officer accidentally killed in the line of duty and 372 assaults on officers with one-third resulting in personal injury to the officer.
