This report compares Washington State's experience with the felony criminal process in 1981 to that of other States and the District of Columbia.
Abstract
In terms of total reported crime, Washington was ranked 13 and has continued to exceed the national average since 1968. Further, Washington ranked 26 in reported crimes of violence and 8 in reported forcible rapes. Washington was also above the national average in property crimes reported, ranking 12 in reported burglaries and 9 in reported larcenies. Finally, arrest rate comparisons indicate that Washington arrests are generally in proportion to the incidence of reported crime. Twenty-one charts, maps, and tables compare data on crime rates, arrest rates, and incarceration rates.
