This report presents data on campus crime occurring at all Tennessee institutions of higher learning during 2011.
Abstract
Highlights of campus crime occurring at Tennessee's institutions of higher learning include the following: crime reported by colleges and universities in the State increased 4.2 percent from 2010 to 2011, from 7,190 offenses in 2010 to 7,493 in 2011; 37.1 percent of offenses reported were characterized as larceny/theft; between 2009 and 2011, theft from motor vehicle offenses decreased 24.6 percent; assault offenses increased 6.5 percent between 2010 and 2011, with the largest increase occurring in simple assaults; forcible sex offenses increased 46.7 percent, from 30 in 2010 to 44 in 2011; drug/narcotics and drug equipment violations increased 25.7 percent between 2010 and 2011; and group B offenses of trespass of real property and driving under the influence increased 22.9 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively, between 2010 and 2011, while curfew/loitering decreased 93.6 percent between 2010 and 2011. This report was compiled by the Crime Statistics Unit of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The report is compiled annually as required under Tennessee State law. The report is intended to assist law enforcement, institution administrators, and government officials in planning their efforts to fight crime on the State's campuses. Data for the report were obtained from the TIBRS, the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System program that collects data on all crimes occurring in the State. Tables and figures
