This report summarizes the incidence and types of crime committed in Connecticut in 1989, and is based on Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), the objective of which is to produce reliable criminal statistics of law enforcement administrators, operators, and managers. The UCR program defines crime index offenses and assesses the data taking into account the community population, variations in the composition of the population, stability of the population, economic conditions, cultural conditions, climate, drug trafficking and abuse in the community, effective strength of law enforcement agencies, administrative and investigative efficiency of those agencies, policies of other components of the criminal justice system, public attitudes toward crime, and citizen crime reporting practices.
Abstract
The report summarizes Connecticut crime index offenses, namely murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Analyses include crime index offenses by county; the value of property stolen and recovered; and arrest data by age, sex, and race. The offense and arrest data is categorized by contributor: municipal police departments or State police towns. Data on law enforcement employees is included, as well as the number of officers killed or assaulted. Finally, statistics on family violence and family violence homicide have been compiled.
