This police officers’ handbook from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Advisory Council details the South Carolina Supreme Court case against Robert G. McGowan, Jr. concerning public intoxication.
Abstract
Focusing on the Supreme Court of the State of South Carolina case against Robert G. McGowan, Jr., this police officers’ handbook discusses legal issues concerning the issue of public intoxication. Developed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Advisory Council, this handbook begins by defining disorderly conduct in public places. After presenting the facts of the case in S.C. vs. Robert G. McGowan, Jr. that led to trial court to assert that McGowan’s front yard constituted a public place under legal statute, this handbook presents a true/false test in order to measure the reader’s comprehension of the facts of this court case. The handbook then presents the answers to a previous edition’s true/false test concerning S.C. vs. Mandel Sims. Returning to the issue of S.C. vs. Robert G. McGowan, Jr. this handbook then details the laws involved in this South Carolina Supreme Court case, stating that the trial court’s conviction was affirmed by the Supreme Court. Following commentary on this court case by a legal advisor, this handbook lists various court cases that address the issues of public places and disorderly conduct. This handbook concludes with an installment in a continuing series discussing neglect and abuse of the elderly.
