This report presents an analysis of trends and patterns of crime in Delaware from 2000 to 2005.
Abstract
Highlights from this statistical crime report include: (1) total reported Group A crime (violent crimes, serious property crimes, drug crimes, and other property and social crimes) decreased from 93,984 in 2000 to 92,817 in 2005, a 1.2 percent decrease; (2) the crime rate decreased faster than the number of crimes-there has been a 7.9 percent decrease in the crime rate for offenses received since 2000; (3) violent crimes increased-there has been a 2.9 percent increase in violent crimes since 2000 (from 26,498 in 2000 to 27,263 in 2005); (4) drug crimes increased-drug crimes have increased 35.7 percent since 2000; (5) overall arrests increased-there has been a 33 percent overall increase in Group A arrests since 2000; (6) adult arrests increased 36 percent in Group A arrests since 2000; (7) juvenile arrests increased 21 percent for Group A arrests since 2000; (8) crimes cleared increased 13 percent; and (9) Group B complaints (representing less serious crimes) increased 5.9 percent since 2000. This report supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics and Bureau of Justice Assistance provides an analysis of crime in Delaware from 2000 to 2005. To provide a viable history, the State Bureau of Identification and the Delaware State Police provided a 2000 to 2005 summary for the detailed National Incident Based Crime Reporting System (NIBRS) crime information for this report.
