THIS STATISTICAL DESCRIPTION OF CRIME DEVELOPMENT WITHIN SWEDEN FROM 1950-1977 INCLUDES SECTIONS ON ALCOHOL AND DRUG USE, UNEMPLOYMENT, AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND CONDITIONS WITHIN SWEDISH SCHOOLS.
Abstract
THE STATISTICAL REPORT IS DIVIDED INTO THESE CATEGORIES: VIOLENT CRIMES, ROBBERY, BURGLARY, AUTO THEFT, OTHER THEFT AND VANDALISM. THE REPORT ALSO CONSIDERS THE CRIME RATES IN THE SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES (SWEDEN, FINLAND, NORWAY, AND DENMARK.) SPECIAL SECTIONS OF THE REPORT ARE DEVOTED TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH CRIME, BANKRUPTCY AND YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT, CONDITIONS WITHIN SWEDISH SCHOOLS, AND INSURANCE STATISTICS ON CRIME INCIDENTS. AN ARTICLE DISCUSSING THE YOUTH JOB MARKET IS ALSO INCLUDED. IN 1977, OVER 40,000 SWEDISH YOUTH WERE UNEMPLOYED AND THIS MEANS THAT NEARLY ONE-HALF OF ALL UNEMPLOYED PERSONS IN SWEDEN ARE UNDER 25 YEARS OF AGE. UNEMPLOYMENT IS GREATEST AMONG YOUNG FEMALES, VERY YOUNG JUVENILES, AND YOUTH WITH LOWER EDUCATIONAL STATUS. THE ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE MEAGRE YOUTH JOB MARKET AND REACTIONS OF YOUTH TO UNEMPLOYMENT. FEELINGS OF ALIENATION FROM SOCIETY AND POWERLESSNESS AMONG YOUTH ARE CONSIDERED IN RELATION TO JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED. (DAG) -- IN SWEDISH
