CRIMINALISTICS COMBINES INDUCTIVE AND LATERAL THINKING IN A SCIENTIFIC SEARCH FOR PRIMA FACIE EVIDENCE.
Abstract
BASED ON PRINCIPLES OF SIMILARITY AND PROBABILITY, IT IS AN EFFORT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY AND CERTAINTY. THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE CRIMINALISTICS LABORATORY THEREFORE CONSISTS OF ESTABLISHING PRIMA FACIE EVIDENCE, I.E., EVIDENCE BASED ON CLUES, WHICH IS THE RESULT OF SCIENTIFIC ELABORATION, AND IN WHICH VARIOUS FORMS OF REASONING ARE USED TO ESTABLISH A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE FACTS OBSERVED BY POLICE INVESTIGATIONS.
