This manual presents the codebook, data collection instruments, coder instructions, and a descriptive summary for a study of how commercial and residential characteristics contribute to crime and reactions to crime in mixed commercial-residential settings in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.
Abstract
The physical characteristics variables include type of business, store hours, arrangement of buildings, and defensive modifications. Demographic variables include racial composition, average household size and income, and percent change of occupancy. Crime data are on robbery, burglary, assault, rape, personal theft, and shoplifting. Study instruments are questionnaires and observation schedules.
