This report assesses the crime problem in Illinois during 1979, providing mainly statistical data on crime trends, offense and clearance rates, and law enforcement employee information.
Abstract
Tables illustrate statewide Index crimes and arrests. They break down the number of crimes against persons and property by type of crime and again by type of weapon used, by situation, by type of property, and by victim's race and sex. Crime statistics reported by county and State police, railroad police, park police, and other agencies are compared to those reported the previous year. Crimes by Illinois Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas are also shown, along with the number of police officers killed or wounded and additional data on personnel strength by police agency. A glossary of crime Index offenses and a list of Uniform Crime Reporting offense codes are appended.
