THE ANNUAL REPORT DESCRIBES THE LOUISIANA CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, INCLUDING ITS COLLECTION OF DATA; THE KINDS, EXTENT, AND LOCATION OF CRIME; AND THE FUNCTIONS OF AGENCIES DEALING WITH CRIME.
Abstract
THE REPORT DESCRIBES IN DETAIL THE LOUISIANA CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM AND HOW IT WORKS, INCLUDING REPORTING CRIME STATISTICS AND COOPERATION WITH FEDERAL AGENCIES. THE ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS ABOUT CRIME INCLUDES THEIR NATURE, VOLUME, LOCATION, EVALUATION OF THE PRESENT CRIME SITUATION, AND PROJECTION OF FUTURE CRIME TRENDS. AN EVALUATION IS MADE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM CAPACITY, INCLUDING THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM--LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, COURTS, AND CORRECTIONS. INDEX OFFENSES ARE COMPARED BETWEEN STANDARD METROPOLITAN STATISTICAL AREAS (SMSA'S) AND NON-SMSA'S AND AGAINST TOTAL STATE CRIME RATES. THE STATE STATISTICS ARE BROKEN DOWN BY PARISH TO OFFER CLEAR COMPARISONS. PROJECTIONS FOR 1979 CRIME RATES ARE BASED ON 1972-1978 DATA. FUNCTIONS OF COURTS, ADULT AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS, AND CRIME LABORATORIES ARE DESCRIBED ALONG WITH WORKLOADS AND EXPENDITURES. CHARTS AND GRAPHS ACCOMPANY EACH SECTION OF THE REPORT. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS 65 TABLES, SAMPLE PRINTOUTS OF THE COMPLETE DISPOSITION REPORTING SYSTEM, AND A GLOSSARY OF TERMS. (RFC)
