This report presents Missouri's 2011 data for the index crimes specified under the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) program.
Abstract
In 2011, a total of 227,501 UCR index offenses were recorded by Missouri law enforcement agencies. Of these offenses, 26,852 were violent offenses (murder, forcible rape, robbery, or aggravated assault), which composed. 11.8 percent of total offenses. There were 385 murders, 1,457 forcible rapes, 6,258 robberies, and 18,752 aggravated assaults. There were 200,199 property index offenses (burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson), which composed 88.2 percent of the total number of offenses. There were 44,765 burglaries, 138,632 thefts, 15,295 motor vehicle thefts, and 1,507 arsons. Property offenses accounted for $293,142,334 in property stolen or destroyed. Law enforcement agencies recorded 40,602 incidents of domestic violence (71 of these offenses were homicides). A total of 121 crimes were determined to be hate crimes. They were committed by 137 known offenders. Of these offenses, 63.9 percent were motivated by racial bias. In 2011, four law enforcement officers were killed feloniously, and three were killed accidentally in the line of duty. A total of 2,428 law enforcement officers were assaulted in the line of duty. Missouri law enforcement agencies employed 20,363 persons in 2011; 14,625 were sworn officers, and 5,738 were civilians. 72 tables and 24 figures
