Based on the Nebraska Uniform Crime Reportings (UCR) program, involving the collection, compilation, and analysis of crime statistics reported by State law enforcement agencies, 64,636 index offenses occurred in Nebraska in 1988; 4309 were violent crimes, and 60,010 were property crimes.
Abstract
This annual report points out that most violent crimes (2988) were felony assaults; larceny-thefts accounted for 70 percent (45,260) of the total crime index. The arrest rate increased by nine percent in 1987 while the number of assaults on law enforcement officers decreased by 14 percent during the same period. Persons under 18 accounted for over 20 percent of the total arrests. The report details the UCR program and analyzes statistics on various index offenses (murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson). Data is presented on Nebraska arrest data, officers killed and assaulted, law enforcement employees, offenses by county and arrests by county. 39 tables, 12 figures.
