Abstract
This report summarizes the changes in Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) index crimes in the State of New York from calendar year 1991 to 1992. The data are estimates based on New York law enforcement agencies that submitted complete monthly reports by March 1993. Regionally, New York City reported decreases of 8.0, 6.4 and 8.5 percent for index crime, violent crime and property crime, respectively. Upstate, index crime and property crime declined by 3.2 and 3.6 percent. Violent crime, however, rose 1.1 percent. Most of the increase occurred in areas with populations between 50,000 and 99,000. Statewide, larceny accounted for 57.2 percent of all property crimes. Sixty percent of property crimes occurred in New York City. Robberies accounted for 53.1 percent of all violent crimes.
