Intended to serve as a summary of statistics on the number and nature of crimes in the counties and State of North Dakota in 1989, this report is the result of a comprehensive analysis of the Uniform Crime Reports.
Abstract
The report presents 1989 data for North Dakota on crime index offenses, clearances, arrests, property loss to crime, and index crime by contributor. There were 16,704 crime index offenses reported in 1989, a 7.6-percent decrease from the total reported for 1988. Violent crimes, which accounted for 2 percent of total index crimes reported in 1989, increased from 392 in 1988 to 414, a 5.6-percent increase. Collectively, property crimes decreased 7.9 percent to 16,290 reported in 1989. Approximately 25 percent of total index crime was reported cleared by arrest or other means. Law enforcement agencies reported 24,341 arrests, an arrest rate of 3,688 per 100,000 population. Forty percent of the $8.2 million worth of property lost to crime was reported recovered by law enforcement officials. 17 figures, 21 tables, and 5 appendixes
